Relationships can be complicated, confusing and mystifying. ‘Couple’, painted by Derek Marks, presents the nature of a relationship through the simple posture of two people. It is a sunny day, where the man and woman are both looking at the same direction, however, the state of their mind, as well as their facial expression, is unknown to the viewers, this makes us wonder: what is going through their mind?

Marks is an English born painter and graduated from The Goldsmiths college of Art in London. He is an associate lecturer at the University of the Arts London and the West Surrey College of Art.
